A Meaning in Thai Example
about to กำลังจะ Peggy is about to leave.
in advance ล่วงหน้า We booked the tickets in advance.
all over the place ทั่วไปหมด There are environmental problems all over the place.
B Meaning in Thai Example
bloody สุดๆๆ What a bloody day!
to be blue อารมณ์เศร้า She’s been feeling blue all day.
be broke ไม่มีเงิน I can’t go to the cinema with you, I’m broke.
to brush up on sb. ขัดเกลา I have to brush up on my Spanish.
buck = Dollar You can buy a DVD player for less than 100 bucks (dollars).
C Meaning in Thai Example
to catch something จับได้ทัน Sorry, I didn’t quite catch your telephone number.
to catch cold เป็นหวัด I walked out in the rain, so I caught cold.
not to have a clue ไม่มีร่องรอย I don’t have a clue about repairing the faucet.
Couch Potato lazy He is a couch potato person.

F Meaning in Thai Example
fair enough เข้าใจแล้ว, alright Fair enough! Let’s go out for dinner tonight.
to keep my fingers crossed หวังสิ่งดีๆ ที่เกิดขึ้น,

G Meaning in Thai Example
to get cold feet กลัว He wanted to speak to the boss, but he didn’t. He got cold feet.
to get fed up with sb. เบื่อหนาย They get fed up with their neighbour’s parties.
to get rid of sb. กำจัด We have to get rid of that old car.
to take sth. for granted สมมุติ, เดาว่า I took it for granted the meeting was on Tuesday.
come to the conclusion ด่วนสรุป I am sorry that I come to the conclusion.
guy a person Jennifer fell in love with the guy from the supermarket.
H Meaning in Thai Example
had better น่าจะ…ดีกว่า You’d better go now.
have an affair มีเรื่องชู้สาว Are you having an affair with somebody else?
have a crush on ตกหลุมรัก I have a crush on you
on the other hand ในทางตรงกันข้าม Sue likes pop music, on the other hand she doesn’t like discos.

K Meaning in Thai Example
to keep an eye on sth./sb. คอยสอดส่อง Will you keep an eye on my baby?
L Meaning in Thai Example
little by little ทีละเล็กทีละน้อย Andrew had an accident while playing ice-hockey. Little by little he begins to walk.
to look forward to sb. ตั้งตารอคอย I look forward to my holidays in Rome.
M Meaning in Thai Example
to make oneself at home ทำตัวตามสบาย Come in, please. Make yourself at home.
to make the most ทำให้มากที่สุด Let’s make the most of the last day of our holidays.
to make up one’s mind up ตัดสินใจ, make a decision Did you make your mind up to buy a new computer?
What’s the matter? เกิดอะไรขึ้น You look sad. What’s the matter with you?

P Meaning in Thai Example
from now on นับจากนี้ From now on I’m going to drive more carefully.

to come to the point เน้นประเด็น Don’t talk for hours. Come to the point.

R Meaning in Thai Example
red tape ขั้นตอนที่ใช้เวลามาก Too much red tape takes everything longer.
S Meaning in Thai Example
to be in someone’s shoes เอาใจเขามาใส่ใจเรา I don’t want to be in Peter’s shoes.
to shut up หุบปาก, เงียบ Shut up or disappear before I get furious.
can’t stand ทนไม่ไหว I can’t stand the rain.
spy on me สอดแนม, สายสืบ Are you spying on me?

T Meaning in Thai Example
Take it easy. ทำตัวตามสบาย Take it easy.

to be on time ตรงต่อเวลา Please be on time.
to take one’s time ค่อยๆ ทำตามสบาย Take your time.
to loose track ไม่ได้ข่าวคราว Do you know where Fred lives? – I’ve lost track of him.
to take turns เป็นทีของ My sister and Anne take turns babysitting.
W Meaning in Thai Example
Watch your step. ระวังให้ดี You’d better watch your step if you don’t want trouble with your boss.
no wonder ไม่แปลกใจ No wonder he is ill. He went out in shorts in winter.
in other words ในทางตรงกันข้าม In other words, you can’t answer the question.
